In a recent interview with an English-speaking fan show dedicated to Olympiacos supporters abroad-specifically the Thrylos 7 International program-Kostas Karapapas, the club’s vice president, shared insights on various topics.
The Vision Behind Olympiacos’ State-of-the-Art Museum
Among the subjects discussed was the cutting-edge Olympiacos FC Museum. Karapapas revealed key details about both the museum’s construction and its intended role moving forward. He emphasized the club’s ambition to welcome every school across Greece to visit and experience the museum firsthand.
Karapapas on the Museum’s Purpose and Community Impact
“Our goal is for all Greek schools to tour the museum, even if we have to cover the expenses ourselves,” Karapapas explained. “Moreover, the museum is set to become a landmark for the city of Piraeus. It will be integrated into the cruise tourism circuit, meaning travelers arriving by ship will have the opportunity to explore Olympiacos’ new cultural hub.”
He further elaborated, “We wanted the museum to serve as a bridge between cherished memories and the future. It’s designed to be a vessel preserving our history, including a dedicated section honoring the victims of the Gate 7 tragedy. Our intention was to pay tribute respectfully-creating a space that evokes remembrance without sorrow.”
Behind the Scenes: The Museum’s Construction and Investment
Karapapas also disclosed significant facts about the museum’s development: “Mr. Marinakis personally invested over €6 million of his own funds-not club money-collaborating with a leading digital museum company. Every component of the museum was meticulously crafted in Barcelona.”
He recounted the painstaking effort to gather Olympiacos’ trophies: “Since joining the club, Mr. Marinakis insisted on locating every single trophy, regardless of the difficulty or cost. You wouldn’t believe where some were found-even in hospitals! Restoring them to their original brilliance took four months, working alongside Europe’s top restoration experts to make them look brand new.”
