Insights from the Greek Football Federation
The EPO highlighted that the League Phase of the Greek Cup Betsson marks a fresh chapter in Greek football, introducing a revamped format inspired by European competitions. This new structure is designed to enhance competitiveness and fan engagement throughout the tournament.
“The League Phase kicks off with nine matches, setting the stage for a thrilling competition that integrates teams across different tiers, ensuring a dynamic and unpredictable contest,” the federation stated.

Due to ongoing European commitments, Olympiacos will not participate in the first round, while Panathinaikos and PAOK will skip the second round for the same reason. These three fixtures are rescheduled to the fifth and final matchday of the League Phase.

Competition Format and Qualification Criteria
The League Phase adopts a novel format where each team competes in four matches-two at home and two away-against opponents from different strength groups. This results in a total of 40 matches across the phase.
All results contribute to a unified league table, which determines the progression of teams: the top four secure direct entry to the quarterfinals, while those ranked fifth to twelfth enter the playoff stage.
